Srinagar, Jul 03 (KNO): Thousands of Shia mourners on Thursday took part in the traditional 7th Muharram procession in the Old City area of Srinagar. The procession moved through traditional routes with religious fervor and zeal. As per the details collected by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the event witnessed participation from people across Srinagar, as mourners walked solemnly through areas including Zadibal and Rainawari, reciting elegies in remembrance of the martyrs of Karbala. Aijaz Hussain, a mourner from Rainawari, Srinagar, said the participation in this procession is a symbol of undying love for Imam Hussain (AS) and the sacrifices of Karbala. Pertinently, to ensure smooth traffic flow and public safety, the Srinagar Traffic Police had already issued a detailed advisory on June 27, which included diversions across multiple city areas from June 30 to July 21. Notably, today on the 7th Muharram (July 3), key diversions were in place on the Rainawari-Hazratbal road from 1:30 PM to 5:00 PM, where commuters were redirected through alternate routes including Khanyar-Dastgeer Sahib-Nowhatta-Hawal-Lalbazar and Saderbal-Lalbazar. A traffic police official, commenting on today’s diversion, said the teams were stationed across all key junctions to guide traffic and facilitate mourners. “We are thankful to the public for their cooperation,” he said. Meanwhile, authorities have urged citizens to continue following traffic updates during the remaining Muharram days. Additional diversions, if necessary, will be announced accordingly. Moreover, a large procession is scheduled from Guru Bazar to Dalgate tomorrow (8th Muharram), the traffic police have already issued an advisory—(KNO)
